Sterling Tarrant started in radio in High School, programming a weekly live radio show for a Junior Achievement company in 1978. From there, as Student Operations Manager, he started the first all-Christian format at his college radio station, WRVN, (now WQME) Anderson University, where he went to school alongside Sandi Patty and Steven Curtis Chapman.

After a three year stint at Walt Disney World, Sterling has been in Christian radio since 1988. He’s worked at stations in Indianapolis, Orlando, Rapid City, Colorado Springs, and Houston. He was recently the Senior Creative Producer in Broadcasting at Focus on the Family where he was in charge of all the Creative and Dramatic promos and radio spots, as well as seasonal radio specials, and the dramatic introductions for the Focus on the Family Radio Program. In addition to supervising the production of the James Dobson Family Minute he also created and managed new broadcast offerings for Focus on the Family like the 60 second radio feature “The Family Night Guy” and the nightly radio show “Sharing Life Together” where he developed the nationally syndicated version of Martha Hadley’s evening show along with Scott Valentine, and John Frost.

In 1995 and 2007, Sterling taught copywriting and production seminars at the Christian Music Broadcaster’s Annual Gathering in Nashville. He is a Certified Professional Commercial Copywriter from the Radio Advertising Bureau, a graduate of Roy Williams “Wizard of Ads” Academy, and winner of multiple awards, including a Best Promo Award from the International Radio and Production Magazine, where he created the “QitUp” column and wrote it monthly for a number of years.

Sterling was hired by Jon Hull to be the original Creative Services Director for KBIQ/Colorado Springs and the Word in Music Satellite Network.  In addition to managing all Network Production, his creative services department produced spots for legendary stations like WCBW, St. Louis, and WJIS, Sarasota. Sterling has also been a Program Director, Music Director, Special Projects Director, Account Executive, and an On-Air Personality, but his first love is production. He loves to create messages that connect to people’s hearts, and for decades he’s honed that craft. Those in the industry have told him that they can tell a “Sterling Tarrant” spot.  He’s now producing those spots full time for an audience over 700,000 each week at KSBJ in Houston after Jon Hull came calling again in 2008.
